This has to be my favourite diner. I'm often found here on late Saturday morning, tucking into a substantial American breakfast of steak (medium) and eggs (over easy). The decor is quite bright and cheerful, the waitresses generally chatty and nice, and I've had only one dubious meal out of around thirty; several have in fact been excellent. Fairly good price-wise; around $12.00 for steak, eggs, toast, coffee and OJ including tips. Nice wide range of food available.
To find it: go westbound on Route 10 from Ridgedale Avenue (East Hanover). You will pass the diner on the other side of the road. Take the next jughandle (at the garage) to U-turn, and turn off the road just before the diner to get to the parking.
I've only been here once. It was OK, but not outstanding. They were out of the two veggie dishes that sounded tempting so I went for lasagna. Reasonably good.
To find it: go westbound on Route 10 from Whippany. You will enter a 50mph zone and pass under a bridge. You will pass the Brookside diner on the far side of the road. Take the next jughandle to U-turn, come back and drive right in.
I've tried this place a couple of times for breakfast and it's OK. The home fries served with the steak and eggs are pretty good, and the menu has quite a good range. Decor's a bit gloomy though.
It's a bugger to get to if you're coming from East Hanover. Get onto Route 46 northbound, and you'll pass it just after a jughandle -- on the far side. You'll have to continue until the road splits, and come around a couple of miles further up to get southbound again.
This place must be visited. No question. While the name may sound a little unappetising to the Brits, it refers to a certain Mr. Bogart, and the decor is very Bogart-orientated. The seating is a bit cramped; I tend to head for the bar, as in summer it's too easy to be stuck under a noisy and cold air conditioner. But the food is really, really good. The Balsamic chicken and meatloaf are especially recommended. A good range of drink from the bar, and Tim the barman is a sound bloke.
To find: head westbound on Route 10 from Whippany. You pass Pine Plaza shopping centre and Nikko restaurant on the far side. It's just before the junction where Hanover police station is, but sneaks up on you so be alert. It's a white-painted house with a "Bogey's" sign. Coming out can be a bit dangerous as the view to the left is somewhat restricted.
