Chili's

A chain with a Mexican theme, it's in a handy place for most of East Hanover / Florham Park. The range of food is pretty good, from burgers to steaks to tortillas to fajitas, and there is an impressive range of cocktails though I've not personally tried any of them. The desserts all have ice cream on, and I've never managed even to consider eating one given the portions of the main courses. I'm particularly fond of the fajitas and the black bean skillet quesadillo. Service is pretty good, and they refill sodas. Slightly weird decor (mind your head on the cauldrons above the tables!) but quite nice and bustling. An old favorite.

To find it: go west on Route 10 from River Road. Go past Pathmarket and over that junction. Once past Taco Bell, turn right at the next junction. This leads you into the plaza and Chili's abuts the road.

TGI Friday's

Much like Chili's, but with a slightly greater emphasis on drink than on food, and a more "generic" menu. A pretty kicking atmosphere, it's clearly a chain but the menu and cocktails are good enough that you won't mind -- especially after the second drink...

To find it: go up Route 202 onto Route 46, turn left to go westbound, and drive for 5-10 minutes or so. It's on the left hand side.

Starbuck's

Intelligence sources report that Starbuck's is making a serious foray into England at the moment -- even Bath has one! But the USA is the home of Starbuck's. For good coffee it's hard to beat; I'm a latté person, but there's a wide range of other brews. The cakes and pastries vary in quality, but I've had a very nice blueberry muffin from there.

To find it; head eastbound on Route 510 from the junction with 24, past the airport. You enter Florham Park and go into a 35mph zone. Take the left turning at the second set of traffic lights, between two plaza zones. Turn left into the plaza with Kings supermarket, and Starbuck's is on the end of that row.

Dunkin' Donuts

For a quick and cheap bagel and coffee, it's hard to beat DD. Service is very quick, though the bewildering variety of bagel and donut types can be confusing for the novice. I'm a sucker for a cream cheese and salmon bagel, even though it's an all-in-one paste that quite possibly has never seen a fish in its life. Plenty of Snapples are available too; I recommend the peach iced tea.

To find it; turn northbound onto Ridgedale Avenue from Route 10 (by Novartis.) You go past the fire and police stations on your right after a mile or two. A plaza will appear on the left with a 7-11; Dunkin' Donuts is the next block along.

Bennigan's

For beer fans (and I mean real beer rather than the liquid piss of Budweiser or Coors) Bennigan's provides the ideal place to go out for a meal. The huge range of domestic and foreign brews will suit anyone who's even slightly interested in broadening their beer and ale experience. The Boddington's is recommended! The food's OK, nothing too special; the carrot cake is huge, be warned!

To find it; head eastbound on Route 510 from the intersection with Route 24, just outside Morristown. Pass through Florham Park, and go over the four sets of traffic lights and pass the Exxon gas station to the right. About two miles along on the right is Bennigan's.

Lone Star Steakhouse

You'd definitely have to like steak to go here, as that's pretty much all that's served for main courses. However, the steak I've had has been pretty good, and there's a reasonable range of sizes to suit appetites. Be warned, though, each appetiser will easily serve 3 people. The service I've had hasn't been great -- my appetiser arrived at the same time as my steak, which put a bit of a crimp on enjoying the meal at my own pace.

To find it; head westbound on Route 10 from Ridgedale Avenue. You will go a set of traffic lights by PC Richard, then the road curves slightly to the left. At the next set of traffic lights (with Molly Malone's to the right) turn right; Lone Star is then on your left.
