A cut above your average burger joint. You wait a while for your burger, but they cook them to order and have a wide range of other foods such as chicken. The fries are particularly good. The decor's not too inspired but you'll probably be too busy eating to notice. Prices are very reasonable, and portions are appropriately large. A good stopping off point if you've come down from a hike up Pyramid Mountain near Boonton. Well worth a visit.
To find it: head west on Route 46 from East Hanover. Go past the shopping plaza on the left, and over the junction with 287. You will pass Fuddrucker's on the left; do a U-turn at the next jughandle.
Just the same taste as in the UK, but over here it really is fast food. The speed of delivery is impressive. You can even ask for no mayo and it won't hold up your order. Most impressive.
To find it: go east on Route 10 from Ridgedale. It's at the next junction after the cinema / Chili's junction, on the right hand side.
This is supposed to be a burger joint with a wider and more healthy range of food than Burger King. The range is certainly wider, but the one time I went there I wasn't desperately impressed with the chicken sandwich thing. Again, maybe an off-day but I've had no compelling reason to go back.
To find it: go east on Route 10 from River Road. It's about 800 yards along on the right hand side, after Manny's Wieners.
If you want high-calorie grease, you can't do much better than Manny's Wieners. A small joint, it does a mean Philly Cheese Steak and stocks a good range of Snapples. Not expensive, pretty quick on service and with an OK range of choice. Pity about the plastic flatware; still worth a look, unless you're veggie or on a diet.
To find it: go east on Route 10 from River Road. It's about 700 yards along on the right hand side. Reasonable amount of parking around the back.
